Important Update 8-20-20

August 20, 2020

Dear Parent/Guardian:

This letter is being written to inform you of a change in programming at Bethel Grade School District #82 beginning Friday, August 28, 2020.  The Board of Education voted to make Fridays remote learning days for all students in order to allow the faculty to have additional individual or group instruction with the current remote learners and to give more time for planning.

This change in programming has been a hard decision with much time spent discussing the needs of students and faculty.   The existing plan includes methods of teaching for remote instruction that is being implemented which require more time on the part of the teachers to effectively reach those students.  Two teachers have been teaching remote learners exclusively at the various grade levels, and the rest of the faculty have been teaching in-person with remote instruction for an hour and a half or an hour depending on the grade level.  Special education teachers have had additional remote instruction to juggle with the in-person students and remote learners during the same time periods since they have students from multiple grade levels.

The teachers will be setting up a schedule and/or assignments for all students for Fridays.  These requirements may vary with each individual teacher so I will let them give directions as to what they expect from their students.  Each teacher should be communicating with students and parents of specific expectations.  Please be sure to check you and/or your child are checking emails and google classroom for the communication from the teachers.

In-person students will be provided a breakfast and lunch for Fridays that will be sent home with each of them on Thursday.  The students that are currently remote learners will continue with the breakfast and lunch program that has already been implemented.

In closing, I want to express by understanding of the stress and unexpected situations this forces on some families.  These decisions were difficult to make and Bethel Grade School District #82 truly wants the best for each family.

Sincerely,

Craig Kujawa

Superintendent, Bethel Grade School District #82
